How do I fetch a YouTube transcript?
Paste any YouTube URL into the search bar and press Enter. Vidgest will automatically fetch the transcript if one is available. You can also paste playlist URLs to fetch multiple transcripts at once.
Why isn't a transcript available for some videos?
Not all YouTube videos have transcripts. Transcripts depend on the video creator enabling captions or YouTube's auto-captioning. Videos without any captions will show as unavailable.
How does AI analysis work?
Vidgest uses AI models (Google Gemini, Anthropic Claude, or OpenAI) to analyze transcripts. Free users get 3 analyses per day. Pro subscribers get 500 per month. Max users bring their own API keys with no app-imposed limits. Your transcripts are sent to the AI provider for processing — never stored on our servers. Accuracy is the responsibility of the AI provider, not Vidgest.
Can I use my own API keys?
Yes! Max tier ($49.99 one-time) lets you bring your own API keys for Gemini, Claude, or OpenAI. This gives you unlimited analyses using your own account.
How do I export transcripts?
Open any transcript and use the Export button to save as plain text (free) or PDF, Markdown, SRT, VTT, and JSON (Pro). You can also copy the full transcript to your clipboard.
Is my data private?
Vidgest is privacy-first. Transcripts are stored locally on your Mac. AI analysis is only performed when you explicitly request it, and we never store your transcript content on our servers. See our Privacy Policy for full details.
How do I manage my subscription?
Subscriptions are managed through the Mac App Store. Go to System Settings > Apple ID > Subscriptions to change or cancel your plan.
